 Light fixture installation service details

Labor to install one (1) member-supplied standard light fixture.
Removal of one (1) existing standard light fixture.
Installation to existing wiring and an existing compatible junction box on a wall or ceiling up to 12 feet high.
An additional fee will be charged for each additional standard light fixture installation.
Chandeliers requiring extensive assembly, multi-tier fixtures, or oversized/non-standard light fixtures.
Repair or replacement of drywall.
New wiring, new electrical circuits, new switches, dimmers, or controllers.
Installation on ceilings over 12 feet.
Junction box replacement or modification.
Structural modifications.
Fixtures exceeding the manufacturer-rated weight capacity of the existing junction box.
Moving furniture or other items to provide access to the install location.
Disposal of the removed fixture.

A standard light fixture is one that can typically be installed within one hour under normal installation conditions. Non-standard fixtures, including large, oversized, decorative, or complex fixtures, may require additional labor and fees payable directly to your Pro.

Some services listed as not included may be available for an additional charge. Any additional work must be discussed, quoted, and approved by the member before work begins. Payment for additional services is made directly to the Pro.

Light fixture installation service FAQs

Light fixture installation costs vary by market, and pricing can climb higher if new wiring or high or vaulted ceiling access is required.



As an American Home Shield member benefit, you get a set price for standard light fixture installation. This covers mounting a fixture you provide and connecting it to an existing wired electrical box. If your installation needs anything beyond that, like new wiring or extra work to access the space, your Pro will go over those additional costs with you before starting the job.

A light fixture installation can vary based on complexity especially if new wiring is needed. However, a typical light fixture installation may take between 30 minutes to one hour if it’s a simple swap.

It is recommended to have a professional handle your light fixture installation. Working with electrical wiring comes with real safety risks if it's not done correctly.

But can you install a light fixture yourself? Some light fixture swaps are simple enough, especially if you're replacing one fixture with a nearly identical one and the wiring is already in good shape. But if you're changing fixture types, adding a dimmer, or aren't confident about what's behind the ceiling box, it's worth getting help before you start. Members can video call with an AHS Technician, who can help assess the issue and even provide real-time guidance as you approach the fix.
