HVAC refrigerant warranty coverage details

Covered:
The parts and components of the well pump unit used as main source of water for the covered home. Must be located on same property as the covered home
Not Covered:
Any other component or part of the well pump system including, but not limited to, any type of piping, electrical or cable lines
Well casings, pressure switches, and booster pumps other than the well pump unit
Well drilling
The well pump for geothermal and/or water source heat pumps

HVAC refrigerant warranty coverage FAQs

HVAC refrigerant is the fluid that circulates through your home's cooling system, absorbing heat from inside your home and releasing it outside to keep your space cool. 

Older systems commonly used R-22 (sometimes referred to by the brand name "Freon"), which has been phased out due to its environmental impact. Home AC recharge costs can vary greatly depending on factors like the size of your system, the type of refrigerant your system takes, and the extent of the leak. Since refrigerant is priced per pound, costs can add up quickly and come as a surprise expense. Due to these factors, many homeowners look for refrigerant coverage as part of their home warranty plan.

A refrigerant recharge itself doesn't have an expiration date, as refrigerant doesn't get "used up." Rather, it circulates through a sealed loop within the AC system. If you notice that your system needs another recharge again in the future, it typically means there's an underlying leak that should be repaired, rather than the refrigerant recharge not lasting. 

American Home Shield refrigerant coverage is included up to $10 per pound as part of the system's overall coverage limit. However, unlimited HVAC refrigerant coverage is an optional add-on that removes the per-pound limit.

If your AC is running but not cooling effectively, low refrigerant is a common cause, often due to a slow leak in the system. The best way to handle it is to make a service request and have a qualified HVAC Pro diagnose whether refrigerant is the issue and recharge the system if needed. This is where HVAC refrigerant warranty coverage can help offset the cost.
