Specialty Refrigerator Warranty Coverage

A specialty built-in refrigerator is manufactured to be installed as a built-in unit that’s permanently affixed inside the cabinetry. This design makes the appliance flush with surrounding cabinetry, giving your kitchen a seamless look rather than protruding like a standalone unit. Because they're integrated into the kitchen's design, built-in models like bar refrigerators, wine chillers, kegerators, and drawer refrigerators are typically larger investments than freestanding units and can require specialized parts or service.

Freestanding freezers are also covered under specialty refrigerator coverage, even though they aren't built in. They're the one exception to the built-in rule for this coverage.

Specialty refrigerator coverage includes all parts and components of built-in bar refrigerators, wine chillers, kegerators, and drawer refrigerators; as well as all parts and components of freestanding freezers. To see specific coverage details, please review the page above or plan agreement.

Specialty refrigerators are generally classified separately from standard refrigerators in the high-end appliance category, because they are not as common and thus costlier to maintain and repair. This is why AHS offers optional coverage for these specialty items. 

American Home Shield® members can purchase additional coverage for specialty models that are built-in and affixed to the cabinetry. The extent of coverage includes bar refrigerators, wine chillers, kegerators, and drawer refrigerators—as well as your freestanding freezers.  Coverage is based on classification (specialty built-in) rather than manufacturer, so premium brands are generally covered, subject to the terms of the plan agreement.

If your specialty built-in refrigerator experiences a covered breakdown, we will repair the covered parts and if it cannot be repaired, we will replace it subject to your plan agreement's limitations and exclusions.
